FLOTATION THERAPY
Complete physical & mental
de-stressing

Flotation Therapy was developed from
the early work of Dr. John Lilly who was a neurophysiologist
and psychoanalyst. In 1954 he conducted research
into how the brain would react when it was denied
external stimulation.
His flotation tanks were originally called sensory
deprivation chambers. When the therapeutic benefits
of these chambers were noticed the name changed
to Flotation Therapy.
Flotation Therapy is a way of isolating
the mind and body from any external stimuli. A way
of attaining the deepest rest that humankind has
ever experienced. This in turn helps produce deep
relaxation
Lie suspended in a warm solution
of Epsom salt only 25cm deep. The salt solution
in a floatation tank or floatroom is so dense that
you float effortlessly. Gentle music helps you to
relax. In short, "It's complete mental and
physical relaxation."
The treatment involves the patient
lying in a sound proof tank of water. The water
has salts and minerals dissolved into it which enables
the body to float.
These days most flotation tanks are
installed in health clubs. The tanks measure around
8ft long by 4ft wide..
The flotation takes place in complete
darkness. Some flotation tanks may play relaxation
tapes or there may be a two way microphone so you
may talk to a practitioner.
